The Creative Process: Beginners Tips
The Creative Process
A successful food photo shoot is all about storytelling. Over time, developing a mental mood board (and a physical one) and considering the atmosphere of the restaurant and the "story" behind the food is key to great food photographer in restaurants. To begin, I highly suggest focusing on replicating existing work first to build a solid foundation before diving into more creative, original ideas.
One of my favourite places to find inspiration, besides Instagram, is Pinterest.
Putting Together a Great Visual Gallery
To tell an effective story of a restaurant, it’s important to treat the restaurant itself like a product, then ask yourself the question: If I am buying this product, what do I want to see? See below some photos of Paripe, from the inclusion of people, the food and drink, even the outdoor seating.
Bonus: On-site Tips
My biggest practice advice for working in a restaurant setting, includes asking politely for the chef to adjust a dish for a better photo and how to be prepared for the shoot by carrying essential items like towels, q-tips, wet wipes, and toothpicks to elevate items.
